Hash Codes is a portable free application designed to help you calculate the checksum of any file. It offers support for CRC32, MD5, SHA1, SHA256, SHA512, Haval, Gost and Adler32 signatures, among others.
Portability advantages
As there is no setup pack involved, you can save the executable file in any part of the hard disk and just click it to run. There is also the possibility to copy Hash Codes to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to launch it on any PC effortlessly and without previous installers.
An important aspect worth taking into consideration is that the app does not add new entries to the Windows registry or Start menu, leaving the disk clean after removal.
Simple interface and options
The GUI is represented by a regular window with a plain and simple structure, where you can point out a file using the file browser or drag-and-drop method, indicate a CD or DVD, or enter text strings.
Once you select the preferred security algorithm, you can generate the hash with the click of a button. Furthermore, Hash Codes implements a feature that allows you to compare two hashes and find out whether they are identical or not.
Evaluation and conclusion
The application does not put a strain on computer performance, as it runs on a low quantity of CPU and RAM. There were no problems in our evaluation, since Hash Codes did not hang, crash or pop up error messages. It gets the job done fast and requires minimal user assistance.

SFExplorer is a small utility for users of SoundFont compatible devices such as SBLive, AWE32, etc. It lets the user browse and preview the currently loaded SoundFonts, and load new SoundFonts and delete SoundFonts from memory. Using SFExplorer, you can also browse soundfonts and wave files on disk or CDs.
SFExplorer can be set up as the default SoundFont viewer for one-click preview.
Some SoundFont compatible devices also have a MIDI output, and can be used as a MIDI device for importing and exporting data.
SFExplorer allows one-click preview of MIDI and SoundFonts, and allows import and export of MIDI or SoundFonts.
SFExplorer is not limited to just SoundFont compatible devices. You can also use SFExplorer to browse and preview SoundFiles or Wave Files on CDs.
SFExplorer is available for Windows, Linux and Mac OSX.
Why SFExplorer exists:
There are many applications that allow the user to browse and preview soundfonts on a computer. However, there are few applications that allow the user to browse, preview, load and delete soundfonts.
The SFExplorer application was designed to be a small tool for users of SoundFont compatible devices (such as SBLive, AWE32, etc.). SFExplorer lets the user browse and preview (using MIDI) the SoundFonts currently loaded by the SoundFont compatible device, as well as load new SoundFonts and delete SoundFonts from memory. SFExplorer can also be set up as the default viewer for SoundFont files (*.sf2) for one-click preview.
Using SFExplorer, you can also browse soundfonts and wave files on disk or CDs. Using a SBLive! soundcard, loading of wave files and presets takes very little time, so the difference between previewing loaded soundfonts and previewing soundfiles on disk is often unnoticeable.
